DE HORIZON VOORBIJ
De olieverfschilderijen van de Amsterdamse kunstschilder ARNALDO (1946) zijn bij kunstliefhebbers bekend. Hij begon in de jaren zestig in realistische stijl te schilderen en ging in 1976 over naar het impressionisme. Vanaf 1984 drukt de kunstenaar zich uit in het expressionisme, dat inmiddels is uitgemond in het abstract-expressionisme.
Begin 1999 verschijnt er een nieuw element in zijn werk: horizontale strepen. De lijnen suggereren onmiskenbaar een immer aanwezige horizon, wat tot gevolg heeft dat zijn abstracte doeken landschappelijk overkomen. De strepen geven de scheiding aan tussen lucht, water en land. De immense ruimte wordt uitgebeeld in kleur en vlak. Zijn inspiratiebron is het Hollands landschap met zijn steeds wisselende luchten en licht, met name WATERLAND, waar hij al meer dan dertig jaar inspiratie opdoet. Schetsen, aquarelleren, fotograferen, kijken en daarbij vooral de ruimte ondergaan. Dit gevoel wordt omgezet in zijn kunstwerken. De kunstenaar publiceerde tevens een aantal gedichtenbundels met het landschap als thema. Specifiek over de streek Waterland.
BEYOND THE HORIZON Paintings by ARNALDO
The oil-paintings by the Amsterdam artist ARNALDO (1946) are familiar to a relatively small group of people. He began to paint in the sixties, as a true realist and changed to impressionism in 1976. From 1984 on expressionism has been Arnaldo's vehicle, gradually turning into abstract-expressionism. In the beginning of 1999 a new element appears in his work: Horizontal lines, which suggest unmistakably the presence of a horizon, thus giving his abstract canvases a landscape-touch. The lines indicate the division between sky, water and land. The inmense space is depicted in colours and sheets. Arnaldo's source of inspiration is the Dutch landscape with its Continuously changing skies and light, and the Waterland-district has been his favourite for over thirty years. Sketching, water- colouring, taking photographs, gazing at everything and most of all undergoing the sense of space - look at his work and you'll see it is all there.
